Flag an error in a comparison

Spotted a board figure that does not match its agency table, a row label that misstates a definition, or a ledger result with the wrong sign? Send it below: the State Cost Compare Editorial Team reads every report.

Identify the comparison

Name both selected jurisdictions and the table row you are checking. Include the source period: a revised BEA release, a different ACS vintage and a current rental listing answer different questions. The District of Columbia record covers the District itself, rather than the whole Washington metropolitan area. A city quote can differ from the statewide median without either number being an extraction error.

Describe a calculation problem

For the budget worksheet, a reproducible example can use invented amounts. State whether you were checking the broad price scenario, recurring monthly costs, annual resources or first-year relocation costs. Include the expected unit and sign of a difference. Explain whether the problem happened after changing a state, swapping selections, opening a shared link or resetting the fields; those steps help isolate an interaction defect.

Link the supporting evidence

For a benchmark correction, link the original agency publication and identify its table, geography and field. An estimate and its Census margin of error should be reported together when possible. The team checks a supported discrepancy against the official record before changing the published data. A source link that fails to open is also useful to report, even if you cannot identify a replacement.

What this channel stores

The form sends your chosen page path, category, message and optional reply address to the corrections queue. It does not attach your worksheet values automatically. Leave home addresses, employer documents and account numbers out of the message. Successful storage produces the received acknowledgement; a failed request asks you to try again. Receipt is not a promise of a particular response time or approval of a proposed interpretation.

The team cannot negotiate a lease, correct an agency survey response or determine a personal tax bill. Read the editorial policy for how supported errors are reviewed, and use the source documentation for the statistical definitions behind a row.
