Editorial Policy & Data Corrections
Updated
Select a comparable series
A source is accepted when the publishing agency defines the measure, geography, period and unit needed for the comparison. The state benchmark table uses BEA SARPP and four Census ACS tables. A current advertisement, salary anecdote or a tax rate copied from another calculator cannot silently replace one of those series. Supplemental jurisdiction examples must identify their own authority and scope, such as the separately cited New York and Connecticut sales-tax explanation.
Check the source records
The editorial review compares each stored value with its official state record. Census estimates and published margins are reconciled together; an estimate alone would omit information needed to interpret a small difference. BEA all-items and rental-housing line codes are checked independently so a housing index cannot be mislabeled as a property sale price. Review dates show when this work occurred. They do not turn observations from 2024 into prices collected today.
Keep the calculation separate
The comparison board subtracts values in matching units. The scenario worksheet divides destination price parity by origin parity, while the prepared budget uses actual entered cash amounts. Documentation and tests cover blank amounts, zero, invalid selections, negative resource differences, swaps and sharing. A test of the stored data alone does not verify a browser interaction; the release also exercises the rendered tools for every supported jurisdiction.
Handle corrections
Reports submitted through the contact form enter the site’s corrections queue. Useful reports name the page and table row, link the original publication, and explain the expected value or output. The team checks whether the difference concerns a revised source, an incorrect field, a different geographic population or an arithmetic defect. A supported correction changes the data or code and the affected page’s reviewed date. The contact channel cannot amend an agency record or approve a household tax treatment.
Maintain visible limits
The site does not publish an invented significance conclusion for Census gaps or a fabricated sampling margin for a BEA ratio. Relocation guides must distinguish regional observations from address quotes. Paid placements, if introduced, must be identifiable and cannot determine which numeric value is shown. This release has no enabled advertising units. The next scheduled BEA release is a review trigger; the new vintage is published only after its definitions, records and calculations have been checked.
Automation and review triggers
AI-assisted drafting and automated extraction, arithmetic and browser checks support the editorial workflow. These tools do not supply an agency’s authority or establish a fact merely by repeating it. Stored fields must reconcile with the original publication, and generated explanations must match the measure’s scope. Verification is triggered before publication, by a supported error report and by a relevant official release. The published next-release date identifies when another data reconciliation is needed; this page does not imply that observations refresh themselves.
