Oklahoma: uniformly cheap, with Texas and Colorado as the dear neighbours
Oklahoma's discount does not depend on one category. Goods (93.778) rank fifth-lowest, rents (62.763) fifth, utilities (73.882) sixth and other services (95.458) ninth. A household with an unusual spending mix will still find most of its budget priced below national levels.
Housing figures follow. Only three jurisdictions have a lower median home value than Oklahoma's $199,800, and its typical property-tax bill ranks 43rd.
Price adjustment lifts Oklahoma's incomes considerably. The median household income of $65,039 ranks 44th, but real per capita personal income, which accounts for the state's prices, is $58,692 and ranks 23rd, close to the U.S. figure of $59,195.
The state government collected $3,164 per resident in fiscal 2025, rank 44. Individual income tax supplied 37.5%, general sales 26.9% and severance taxes 7.8%; Census records no state property tax. The 2026 withholding tables withhold at 2.5%, 3.5% and 4.5% on wages above the allowance-adjusted thresholds, and the state sales tax rate is 4.5% before city and county rates.
The relative price level fell from 89.630 in 2020 to 87.843 in 2024, a decline of 1.787 points.
Of six neighbours, only Arkansas (86.937) is cheaper. Texas is the big contrast to the south at 97.057, with rents at 96.503 and a two-bedroom median of $1,395, or $402 a month more; Colorado, at 103.052, is dearer still. Kansas (90.068), Missouri (90.817) and New Mexico (92.212) sit between. Iowa (87.762) is the nearest price level nationally.

Before you budget a move
Oklahoma’s all-items price parity is among the lowest in the verified state release. Use the comparison to frame purchasing-power questions, then price the actual destination. A statewide ratio does not guarantee that a chosen lease, relocation invoice or insurance contract will follow the same percentage difference.
For Oklahoma City-area, Tulsa-area or another destination, compare offered pay and recurring costs over the same twelve months. Check utility responsibility in the lease and collect the real commuting plan. Do not treat median household income as a wage offer or median owner value as an available listing.
